This Privacy Policy explains how WattsIT Analytics ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects personal and business-related data when SME owners, managers, or authorised representatives ("you", "your") use our services ("the Service"). We are committed to handling all personal data in accordance with the GDPR and applicable Irish/EU data protection laws.

If you have any questions, please contact us through our Contact Us page.

1. What Data We Collect

Data You Provide Through the SME Onboarding Form

  • Business contact information (e.g. name, email, phone number)
  • Business location and operational details (sector, operating hours, equipment, energy usage patterns)
  • Uploaded electricity bills, smart meter data, tariff details, or other energy-related documentation
  • Any additional information you submit to allow us to complete your energy analysis or procure quotes

Automatically Collected Data

Derived and Anonymised Data

  • We may generate anonymised or aggregated datasets based on the energy data you provide
  • Once anonymised, the data cannot be linked back to you or your business

2. How We Use Your Data

To Deliver the Service

  • To analyse your energy usage and generate personalised reports, dashboards, and recommendations
  • To compare business tariffs on the market using your uploaded data
  • To prepare your WattsIT Energy Hub and quarterly updates (if applicable)

To Obtain Supplier Quotes

  • Only the minimum necessary business and energy data will be shared with suppliers
  • With your explicit consent, we may share your meter data, bills, and address so suppliers can prepare an accurate quote

To Improve and Develop the Service

  • We analyse usage trends to improve accuracy, product experience, and performance
  • We may use anonymised datasets to train and improve models

Research and Market Analysis (Anonymised Only)

  • We may share anonymised or aggregated datasets with commercial or research partners
  • This is done under our legitimate interest in improving energy analytics and market transparency

3. Data Sharing

Suppliers (When You Request Quotes)

We only transfer the specific information required to obtain supplier quotes. After transfer, suppliers become independent data controllers and their own privacy policies apply.

Service Providers

We work with trusted third-party vendors (hosting, database, analytics, cloud services) under GDPR-compliant agreements.

Research & Commercial Partners (Anonymised Only)

Only anonymised data may be shared externally.

4. Legal Bases for Processing

  • Consent — when you upload data or authorise us to seek supplier quotes
  • Contract — to provide the energy analysis and dashboards you request
  • Legitimate Interests — developing anonymised analytics, service improvements, and research insights

5. Data Retention

  • Personal and business data is retained only as long as necessary to deliver the Service and meet legal obligations
  • If you purchase our Energy Hub service, relevant data is stored for the duration of your engagement and any agreed quarterly updates
  • Anonymised datasets may be retained for up to five years

Once no longer required, data is securely deleted or irreversibly anonymised.

6. Your Rights

Under GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access your personal data
  • Request correction or deletion
  • Withdraw consent for supplier quote processing at any time
  • Object to processing based on legitimate interests
  • Request a portable copy of your data (data portability)

To exercise any rights, contact us via our Contact Us page.

7. Security

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect the data we hold, including encryption, access controls, audit logs, and secure hosting. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute protection, but we take all reasonable measures to safeguard your information.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The most recent version will always appear on our website. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
